On Thursday, September 20th, Casey Elementary's teachers and PTA hosted its annual "Make and Take Night" for parents and students. "Make and Take" is a perfect example of the collaborative and creative learning community created by teachers, students, and parents at Casey. At this event, parents and students of each grade level gather in a classroom to experience an arts integration lesson facilitated by teachers. This gives teachers and students the opportunity to share with parents what happens in the classroom at Casey every day.
The second grade "Make and Take" met in Mrs. Washington's classroom and was led by Mrs. Washington, Mrs. Kimble, and Mrs. Usry. The classroom was crowded with parents, Casey students, and siblings. This arts integration lesson included a read-aloud of Ed Emberly's Go Away, Big Green Monster!, a discussion of the descriptive elements of the story with a circle map, and an imaginative art project in which parents and students enjoyed working together to create their own versions of "the big green monster." Each monster was unique-- just like the students at Casey!
